Jane Rhyu was born in 1980 in Seoul, South Korea.
She graduated with a BFA in Sculpture and BA in Theater from Washington University in St. Louis.
Her work has been exhibited in France, Italy, India, Japan, Korea, and the USA.
Jane continues her artistic practice in Louveciennes, France.
Performance 2019
This work was performed as an energy exchange between myself and my garden. Inspiration was taken from the elements of nature, a recent visit to Berlin, and seungmu, a meditative traditional dance from Korea.

I performed the role of Lakes.
Architecture of an Atom shows a swim class of displaced 'adult children' escape and move into an abandoned pool in the French Alps where they develop an autonomous zone. Two members of the group, best friends forever, Frida and Cohl, find something uncanny – a statue ? – a lady ? – a whistle? In the falls near the abandoned pool, seemingly an answer....
This work was screened at the Moderna Museum of Stockholm (2014), Musée d’Art Contemporain de Lyon (2015), and MOMA PS1 (2016).
Performance 2012
This work was presented in the Kallar River in India. I painted the dark with a brush of fire and sounded the stories flowing through the waters.

I performed the role of Sophie.
Papers is the story of how different types of papers dictate what people can or cannot do. Two Korean-American roommates teaching English in Seoul are thrust into a succession of bureaucratic barriers when one of them decides to leave the house and the other is forced to leave her job.
This work was screened at Seoul Auction (2012).

Collaboration with Boris Oicherman
This work was presented in the Ooeui Stream in Changdong, near Seoul, Korea. I propelled a found object from the neighborhood along a length of the water in rhythm with the wind.
Undocumented is the police confrontation bankside upon the completion of this piece.
